LOCKER ROOM MONITOR REQUIREMENTS

All teams Squirt/10U level and higher are required to have Locker Room Monitors. The Locker Room Monitors will enforce the TYH Locker Room Policy.

TYH has scheduled and limited use of locker rooms and changing areas (e.g., generally 20-45 minutes before and following practices and games). This allows for direct and regular monitoring of locker room areas. While constant monitoring inside of locker rooms and changing areas might be the most effective way to prevent problems, we understand that this would likely make some players uncomfortable and may even place our staff at risk for unwarranted suspicion. Sweeps of the locker rooms and changing areas will be conducted before players arrive. If the coaches are not inside the locker rooms, either a coach or voluntary locker room monitors (each of which has been screened) will be posted directly outside of the locker rooms and changing areas during periods of use, and leave the doors open only when adequate privacy is still possible, so that only participants, (coaches and players), approved team personnel and family members are permitted in the locker room. When possible, the locker room monitor will be of the same gender as the participants being monitored.

Locker Room Monitors are required to register and obtain a USA Hockey Number, complete SafeSport training, have an approved background check, and need to register with TYH. All steps are detailed below.

You will need a current USA Hockey Number (renewed yearly). When registering be sure to choose Manager/Volunteer option when asked "What type of member are you registering." There is no cost for this.

You must complete SafeSport training every year. You will be redirected to your MyHockeyHQ Portal Login screen. If you do not yet have an account here please follow the directions for "First time members," read carefully. Once you are in your My Member HQ and on your Dashboard you will see SafeSport Training on the right half of the page.

You are required to have an approved background check, renewal happens every two years. There is a $30 cost associated with this step. You can submit the form below for reimbursement through the association.

The last step is to register as a SafeSport Certified Volunteer with the Thunderbird Youth Hockey Association.
